Dr. H. Alexander Crisp Board Certified Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon
Please meet Dr. H. Alexander Crisp, Board Certified Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon. Dr. Crisp is originally from Burlington, North Carolina, and he attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for his undergraduate studies. While at UNC, he played linebacker on the varsity football team. He originally walked-on to the football team, but was awarded a full scholarship his senior year. Although Dr. Crisp loved playing football, he soon gave it up to pursue his dream of becoming a dentist.
After graduating from UNC, he went on to attend the East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine, where he obtained his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree and graduated as a member of the inaugural class. During his second year of dental school, Dr. Crisp decided that he wanted to become an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon. Through hard work, determination, and mentorship, he propelled himself to the top of his class, and graduated Omicron Kappa Upsilon (OKU) Honor Society. He then went on to complete the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency program at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. While he was a resident, he published two textbook chapters, one of which was on Orthognathic surgery in Peterson’s Principles of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery; a cornerstone text for Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.
Also while in residency at MUSC, Dr. Crisp discovered that he has a passion for teaching. His desire to become an educator led him to his current position as Assistant Professor at the East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Crisp also has a passion for service, which is why he is also currently the Head of Oral Surgery at Butner Federal Prison.
Dr. Crisp is a member of several professional organizations. He is a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS), a Fellow of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (IAOMS), a member of the American Dental Association, NC Dental Society, and Old North State Dental Society. Dr. Crisp is also a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, which is the highest level of certification achievable within Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.
When Dr. Crisp is not working, he enjoys spending time with his family; his wife, Jennifer, & his two daughters, Olivia and Norah, and the couple is expecting their first son this summer. Dr. Crisp is a very hard worker, but he also realizes that he is very fortunate. He credits much of his success to his strong family support system. He believes that he has been able to achieve success by standing on the shoulders of those who came before him.
